What is a lap of Hockenheimring like?
The original flat-out forest circuit was cut down by Hermann Tilke in 2002 to a 4.574 km layout that keeps the stadium-style Motodrom but replaces the long forest straights with tighter corners. The 1.2 km Parabolika leads into the Spitzkehre, the Turn 6 hairpin that formula1.com calls the circuit's prime overtaking spot; the second DRS zone in 2019 ran along this stretch. The lap combines a long back straight with a low-speed stadium section at the end, so downforce is a compromise: teams run a medium-downforce set-up that gives reasonable straight-line speed but leaves the cars short of grip in the stadium. Hockenheim first hosted the German Grand Prix in 1970 and held it every year from 1977 to 2006 except 1985; from 2007 it alternated with the Nürburgring, and the 2019 race was the last Formula 1 event held there.

Where the winner started, every race at this circuit. Pole sitter means the driver who set the fastest qualifying time (first on the grid where no qualifying data exists); a grid penalty can move the pole sitter back, and that race still counts for them. Compare every circuit.
