What is a lap of Silverstone Circuit like?
Built on a former RAF bomber station, Silverstone hosted the first ever World Championship race on 13 May 1950; the British Grand Prix is the oldest fixture in the championship and Silverstone remains one of the fastest tracks on the calendar. The high-speed Maggotts-Becketts-Chapel sequence (Turns 10-14) is the circuit's fastest and most famous run of corners, while The Loop at Turn 4, a left-hand hairpin taken at around 90 km/h, is the slowest corner. The two DRS zones are on the Wellington Straight into Brooklands and the 770 m Hangar Straight into Stowe, where cars reach about 325 km/h and which gives the best overtaking opportunity. Corner names record history: Abbey and Luffield recall the medieval Luffield Abbey, Brooklands and Aintree are earlier homes of the British Grand Prix, and Woodcote and Club are named after RAC properties (Woodcote Park in Surrey and the club house in Pall Mall).
